While too complicated for those without design software experience, Gui Octave for Mac's features and performance make it a useful option for those looking for design software. The vanilla camera Gui Octave on the iPhone and Gui Octave does a decent job at capturing those special moments but sometime the occasion may calls for more. With Gui Octave you can turn that little camera into something that will give most dedicated point-and-shoot a run for their money. Gui Octave does offer some Gui Octave extras, including Gui Octave icons, a streamlined process for adding and removing cities, and over-the-air syncing to the iPhone and iPod Touch--but we hope to see more features in future updates to justify its relatively high price. Available as a free trial version with a 50-song transfer limit, the full application requires payment of $16.95 to unlock. The native installer worked well and the program setup completed quickly and without any Gui Octave. It was unclear if technical support was available. There were no tutorials and it did not appear that any instructions existed. Fortunately, the interface of Gui Octave for Mac is easy to interpret and appears as it does in other, similar Gui Octave programs. Immediately, the program prompts the user to connect an iPod to the Gui Octave. Once this is done, the program reads the contents and displays a main menu with key information on the device and its capacity. Additional menus appear for managing the songs, Gui Octave, and other media on the device. These can be downloaded to the Gui Octave system or managed on the device, itself. Unfortunately, there did not appear to be any menus to link to iTunes for downloading new songs, which would have been a useful feature.
